No deposit bonus Canada: read the terms before the headline

A no deposit bonus sounds like free money, and sometimes it is a small, capped, heavily conditioned gift.

The short version

Disclosure: we earn a commission when readers sign up at partner casinos. That is how this site is paid for, and it does not change the terms we quote or the warnings we give.

If you only have a minute: a no deposit bonus is credited without you paying in, but it almost always comes with a wagering requirement, a cap on what you can withdraw, a time limit and a maximum bet. Each of those can turn a headline of $50 into a handful of dollars you can actually keep. The rest of this site is about doing that arithmetic before you click.

  • Check the cap on winnings first, then the wagering multiple, then the expiry.
  • Use our wagering table to see the turnover in dollars.
  • Never accept an offer you have not read the bonus terms for. The terms page, not the banner, is the contract.

An honest note on RooRoll

The partner casino we recommend, RooRoll, does not run a standing no deposit bonus as far as we can tell from its own promotions page and bonus guide. Its welcome offer needs a deposit: a 100% match up to €500 plus 100 free spins, and a separate crypto welcome offer for a first crypto deposit. We would rather say that plainly than dress it up. If a no deposit offer is what you want, read our RooRoll versus no deposit comparison and decide with the trade-offs in view.

Why the numbers are less friendly than the banner

Take a $20 bonus at 40x. You must bet $800 before withdrawing. If the games you play return 96% on average, the house keeps about 4 cents of every dollar bet, so $800 of play costs around $32 in expectation. You started with a $20 bonus and the arithmetic says you should end below zero on average. People still win, because variance is large over a few hundred spins, but a bonus is a lottery ticket with conditions, not a cash gift.

That is also why we look for the shape of an offer rather than its size. A small bonus with low wagering and a sensible cap can be worth more than a large one that locks you in for 60x.

Where Canada's rules come in

Gambling is regulated province by province. The minimum age is 19 in most provinces and 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. Ontario runs a licensed market through iGaming Ontario, and we do not write offers for Ontario residents: if you live there, use iGO-regulated sites. For everyone else, read our province notes and the operator's own terms for your province before depositing or claiming anything.

Quick answers

Is there a real no deposit bonus in Canada?

Some offshore and crypto casinos advertise them, usually small, capped and time-limited. Whether one is open to you depends on your province and the operator's terms, so read them first.

Do no deposit bonuses let you keep what you win?

Only after meeting the wagering requirement, and usually only up to a stated cap. The cap and the multiple are the two numbers that decide the real value.

Does RooRoll have a no deposit bonus?

Not that we can find. Its welcome offer is a 100% match up to €500 plus 100 free spins on a first deposit. Check the Promotions page for anything newer.

Is it legal to claim these offers?

Playing is not a crime for individual players in most of Canada, but legality and licensing differ by province. Ontario has its own regulated market. Read the operator's terms for your province.

How do we make money?

Partner casinos pay us a commission when readers register. We say so on every page and it never changes how we describe an offer.
